IMME-2018

November 04, 2018

IMME is the largest and most significant mining exhibition in South Asia, held every two years in Kolkata, the mining hub of India. Organised by the CII (Confederation of Indian Industry), India’s largest industry association and premier exhibition organiser, it is held concurrently with the Global Mining Summit, a technical seminar, also organised by CII. IMME has proven to be the largest mining exhibition, which is also a great example of Corporate Event Management.

The Indian mining sector holds an important place in the country’s infrastructure and economy. In world ranking, India is 2nd in Chromite, 3rd  in Coal and Lignite and Bauxite, 4th in Iron Ore and 5 th in Manganese. India was estimated to have spent $14 billion on coal imports last fiscal year and that figure is likely to rise $25 billion by 2016/17. This combined with factors like the widening Current Account Deficit, depreciation of the Indian currency, and need for enhancing infrastructure for bringing back growth in the economy has made sure that Government has introduced a slew of measures to increase mining in India. These are :

  • Easing environmental clearance norms for expanding coal mines to help the crippling fuel scarcity in the power sector.
  • Cabinet Committee on Investment to fast track project clearances.
  • Coal blocks auction.
  • Inviting Private sector participation in Coal India limited for developing 13 greenfield projects with a 65 million tonne annual capacity.

For the Exhibition stall designers in Kolkata, IMME-2018 will be a big opportunity for Exhibition Stall Fabrication.

Future of the Mining Industry in India:

The future of the mining sector lies in laying emphasis on scientific mining so that state of the art technology is used for exploration, efficiencies are realized, clean technologies and safe mining practises are adopted with adequate supporting infrastructure.

  • Despite the slowdown, India is still the second-fastest growing economy, after China.
  • Demand for minerals, as well as for mining services, is robust in the country.
  • Mining in India is becoming more structured, and companies have started outsourcing part of the project to mining service companies.
  • CIL, i.e., Coal India Limited, the largest mining company in our country, plans to invest around INR254 billion during the Twelfth FYP.
  • Contract Mining can turn out to be a great solution to the on-going current coal deficit in India.
  • As the industry focuses on adapting international levels of technology, there exists untapped potential in the Indian mining equipment sector.
